Accessible Multimedia Module

  • Introduction - An overview of Multimedia components;
  • Review of web accessibility including WAI guidelines, Section 508, Stanca Act;
  • Streaming Media Methods and Media formats (Windows Media, QuickTime and RealMedia);
  • Flash and Shockwave - A discussion of accessibility features and issues with these formats;
  • Providing text transcription, captions and descriptive video synchronized with the media (captions for spoken word, auditory descriptions of relevant action taking place on the screen);
  • Captioning with MAGpie, Hi-Caption and other tools;
  • SMIL and SVG accessibility features;
  • Creating an accessible slideshow.


Evaluating Web Sites Accessibility Module

  • Web accessibility evaluation: why and when?
  • The evaluation cicle:

o XHTML and CSS W3C validators
o Semi-automated validation tools
o Expert validation
o Users tests


The italian accessibility Law Module - Stanca Act 04/2004

  • From WCAG to Stanca Act
  • The Stanca Act 04/2004: normative text analisys
  • Implementation rules (DPR 1st march 2005 n. 75)
  • Technical requirements and accessibility levels for IT tools
  • Technical check and accessibility requirements of Web based applications
  • Technical requirements for desktop and laptop computers

Note: this last chapter is based on Italian accessibility law, the Stanca Act http://www.pubbliaccesso.gov.it/normative/law_20040109_n4.htm

In every country which already has a Web accessibility policy, this chapter should be updated and related to that specific legislation.

Otherwise a "generic" chapter about WAI, WCAG 1.0 guidelines and basic techniques will be provided.
