Training for web accessibility specialist


1. Introduction


The creation of accessible Web sites and applications in full compliance with current Italian law and international standards is a process made up and considered from all points of view which has the necessary condition of the possession of ability and transversal skills, computing and not, which can strongly differ according to the professional and expect several levels of investigation.

This document contains the guidelines for the training of Web accessibility professionals, the Web Accessibility Specialist (WAS), in the arena of project of definition of the requirements of the professionals working on the web by IWA/HWG receiving international indications by the W3C in the Education and Outreach project as well as extending the worth of the experts in accessibility in the sector of information technology applications development.

This document aims to provide concrete support to the distribution subjects of training – businesses, companies and individual trainers – both in the public sector and in the private sector – with the aim of defining the path of the necessary training courses, and thereby enabling the preparation of learners in terms of applying knowledgeably the national and international guidelines, but also the training of a new class of trainers capable of transmitting at the same time technical skills and ethical values inherent in accessibility to the web.

The guidelines, issued by IWA/HWG International, the only association of web professionals within the W3C with representative headquarters in 106 nations, are based on the W3C recommendations - WCAG, ATAG and E&O work groups of the WAI project – and on ISO standards.

2. State of the Document

The Web Accessibility Specialist (WAS) guidelines are currently in the draft phase of work. To obtain the definitive approval and the state of the Guidelines they must be approved by the legal representative of the IWA ITALY association together with the Executive Director of IWA/HWG.

3. Organisation of the guidelines

The guidelines contained in this document are regrouped according to levels of specialisation. For each level the general knowledge requirements and the targets of the training are shown, listing the possible specialisations available. Each level of specialisation contains knowledge requirements which must be evaluated by the instructor through evaluation criteria.
