CWP WAS Specialisations
As indicated in the WAI[1] project of the W3C, accessibility and accessible development regarding different sectors and different acts: an accessible website according to the W3C WCAG 1.0 guidelines may not be used by a user with disability if their assisted technology cannot represent and manage the contents with regard to the W3C UAAG 1.0 guidelines. For the same reason, a user with disabilities may not participate in the creation of contents for the web if the development application does not comply with the W3C ATAG 1.0 guidelines.
The same developers of graphic interfaces need particular training in order to be able to generate layouts that are agreeable and accessible in several resolutions and with the use of different navigation methods. The management of accessibility and usability of the interfaces is guaranteed by internationally recognised and referred ISO law within these guidelines.
For such reasons are defined an area of common base of specialisations and to these propaedeutics, and three specialist macro-areas for the training of experts in accessibility for the management of contents, for the creation of layouts and for the creation of accessible applications.
WAS Web Operator
The WAS Operator (WAS WO) is the professional staff member who reassumes the basic requirements indispensable to be able to develop operative tasks in any way linked to Web accessibility. These basic skills represent the basis to be able to profitable face the training courses linked to later specialisations (WAS Content Manager, Web Designer and Application Developer) and are taken as the starting point for any professional who intends to contend with the problems of Web accessibility.
WAS Content Manager
The WAS Content Manager (WAS CM) is the professional who deals with the management of the contents of a website with the aim of publishing it in a way that will be accessible to a wide range of users. WAS CM activity is largely spread in the company or public reality where systems for the management of contents (CMS) are used for publication of information, or to communicate with the use of their own website. The WAS CM is also in charge of a website of reduced size in which the management of contents takes place through the traditional visual editors in which the task of the content manager is to use predefined models (templates) with which to publish new contents.
WAS Web Designer
The WAS Web Designer (WAS WD) is the professional who deals with the development of the graphic layout of presentation of contents (layout) in a way that will be accessible to a wide range of users. WAS WD activity is linked to the development of models (templates) accessible for content management systems (CMS) as well as to the development of layout of dynamic websites or based on the use of normal visual editors. Together with WAS CM, is one of the most important figures to guarantee accessibility to users in the development of a website.
WAS Application Developer
The WAS Application Developer (WAS AD) is the professional figure who deals with the development of applications in a way that will be accessible to a wide range of users. WAS AD activity is very heterogeneous and regards both the development of accessible applications for the benefit and interaction with the contents and the development of accessible applications for the publication of contents. The WAS AD is the highest specialisation in the WAS training sector in that it requires greater knowledge and skill than the WAS CM and WAS WD levels.
