ASSOCIATION NEWS

Since the launch of its website in the early part of January 1997, the IWA has had a busy time organizing various affiliations and promoting the principles behind the IWA.

The USEweb Group
In February the IWA joined the USEweb Group (http://usewebgroup.inria.fr/).  The USEweb Group is a network of industrial and academic organisations that come together to tackle hot issues in the applications domains of the World Wide Web.

The USEweb Group is in fact a spin-off from the World Wide Webconsortium (W3C), which as many of you may know, focuses on standard protocol specification and technology development. Unlike the W3C the USEweb Group provides a user orientated view of web standards and technology and is hosted and supported by INRIA (The French National Institute of Research in Computer Science and Control).

IWA's Discussion Forum

By now most of you will have visited the IWA website, and while you were there  you would have hopefully used the new Discussion Forum.  Kindly sponsored by Proxicom Inc., the Forum is a great place to interact with other IWA members and to learn more about the IWA.
The award winning Proxicom Forum Product is a great way to assist in the furthering of communication between IWA's professional members.  To learn more about Proxicom's products please visit their website on http://www.proxicom.com
For those of you who prefer real time chat, try out the IWA Frame Chat where you will find different rooms to interact with other members.

COMDEX-Rio
The Coordinator of "InfoMakers : Interdisciplinar Forum on Media, Software, and Design" to be held during COMDEX-Rio, has invited the IWA to participate in a panel to discuss "Website creation process, its interdisciplinary essence and practice, the need for hibrid methods and techniques inspired on its contributing disciplines and practices...". The event will be held in Rio de Janeiro in April of this year. If you want to make a contribution to this panel, then please email Richard Brinegar on
rbrinegar@iwanet.org.
During the same event, the Brazilian Chapter of the IWA will also be set up. We wish them all success !

CHAPTER NEWS

Since its inception, the IWA has actively promoted the opening of Chapters throughout the "3rd Rock from the Sun". Effectively mirroring the concept behind the IWA, these Chapters provide a great way to interact on a local level with  other Webmasters.  For a full listing of all the Chapters, visit the IWA website, and remember if there isn't a Chapter in your area, START ONE UP !

A CALL FOR PARTICIPATION

If you do want to get involved in the activities of the IWA, here are two suggestions :

Use your marketing skills to promote the activities of the IWA and to attract new qualified members.  One easy way of doing this is to simply place the IWA logo somewhere on your Home Page with a link to the IWA website.

Help us make this newsletter a success.  If you are a budding or experienced writer we want you !  At present, we are looking for webmasters who would like to review different software products, and suggest other topics to include in the Newsletter.  If you are interested in this, please e-mail us on
webmaster@eyevee.com

PRODUCT REVIEWS

RiadaCartel
RiadaCartel  is a new software that allows the easy insertion of a moving LED sign in your Web page. Even if you are not a professional programmer, within minutes you'll be creating great looking effects for your page, such as scrolling, revealing, blinking, inverting, rainbows, and many more, all by using the simple Effect Wizard.  I found it extremely easy to create audio effects against events such as mouse clicks and timers utilising the windows drop and drag actions.  I would strongly recommend this product.  To download an evaluation copy, go to
http://www.riada.com.au

Go-Get-It
Go-Get-It is the world's first true personal agent spider robot software for the Internet. Go-Get-It automatically retrieves the Internet WWW and Usenet newsgroups 100 times faster (or so claims the publisher, but I wasn't in a position to check this !) than manually browsing. Once you get the hang of setting it up, Go-Get-It should revolutionise the way you seek and capture information from the WWW Web and Usenet newsgroups. However, to set it up seems to be an intelligence test on its own (which I failed miserably and am now about to go and hang myself in despair).  To download an evaluation copy, go to
http://www.islandnet.com/~abcsoft/download.htm

If you have a product that you feel should be reviewed, don't forget to let us know !
